No matter where you lived in Hoboken, you are basically a 8-12 mile walk from just about everything (with exceptions to walking from one end of town to another, which might take 15-20 minutes depending on your pace).Ī (good) two bedroom in Hoboken isn't $2800. Heights? Newport? Journal Square? They all have different vibes.Īt least with Hoboken it's a walkable city of 1 square mile. You should also consider that Jersey City is a very large area divided into multiple neighborhoods: You will still be an “outsider” because the area is predominantly Spanish speaking but that is changing with the younger generation aka kids of immigrants (not even talking about yuppies moving in). I’m hoping it’s just a matter of time that more yuppie businesses make there way over (like Playa Bowls and Fork Hill Kitchen currently). There’s a ton of development going on, particularly on Palisade Ave and also that new Hoboken Heights project. Like you alluded to, there is still plenty of work for this area to get even close to as appealing as Hoboken, but it’s getting there. We’re able to walk into uptown within 20-30 min depending on which place we want to hit up and the late night Ubers are still only $10-20, so not too bad. We’ve been living here since February after previously living in Hoboken. We wanted to stay close to the fun of Hoboken/JC/Manhattan but also begin building equity. My fiancé and I bought in this area bc it makes sense for both of us job commute-wise and I’m starting a part-time MBA at Stevens in the fall.
